Trouble with power streering
99 trans am ws6 Hello I have questions about the power streering fluid is milky color going to flush it out and change the power streering pump and streering cooler delete and go with a hyden trans cooler dose it matter how the lines go
Moving to Suspension and Brakes.
It doesn't make a difference how you run through the cooler and which line goes where.
Flushing the coolant is also probably a good idea. In order to do that, you will need to remove the plugs on the side of the engine. (1/2 of the coolant is inside the engine and will not drain out through the radiator.) There are other threads on that.
The P/S fluid will flush out. We may have a sticky in this section on how to do this cleanly. With the car off, all you need to do is:
- Drain the reservoir with a turkey baster or bulb.
- Move the return line to a jug or pan.
- Cap the reservoir return or put a small temporary hose on it and bend it so the open end is above the filler hole.
- Fill the reservoir with clean fluid.
- Raise the front of the car and turn the steering lock-to-lock. This will manually pump the fluid through the system with the car off. Keep the reservoir full with clean fluid and keep turning the wheels until the fluid flows clear.
- Drain the reservoir again and re-attach the return hose.
Even with a good cooler, you will need to flush the P/S fluid every 5 years to keep it clean and prevent overflows.

Milky means water contamination or air contamination. Flush it with at least 1 other person helping, or suck out the reservoir with a syringe style pump, refill with good stuff, run it and repeat until satisfied (a lot less messy) but once you get mostly good stuff in there you may be good to go 4 a while but identify anywhere in the system that may be leaking, sucking air or taking in water!
