Default Front Swaybar Install

Was working on a friend car a few days ago, about to swap out his front swaybar for a new one and I was having difficulty getting the driver side mount off. It seems to be 1 large piece of metal that goes up into the fender well a bit. Am I crazy, or is that correct? Anyone have pics or something to confirm what all is needed to remove the front driveside swaybar mount?

Thanks

Are you trying to remove the clamp that holds the bar or the mount that the clamp bolts to which is in turn bolted to the frame? The clamp has two bolts which hold it to the mount. You do not need to remove the mount to change the bar. The mount has four bolts holding it to the frame. Two which are straight up and two which bolt from the side through the frame. You might want to inspect it for cracks while you at it as some people have reported this happening when they have went to bigger front bars such as 35 mm. On the drivers side you will have to remove a splash guard to get at the side bolts. I have a ST 35 mm bar but haven't had any problems yet through 1.5 seasons of autocross. SLP sells a reinforced mount which has a plate welded to it to keep it from flexing and cracking.

Skytower, yes there is a splash guard up there. Its been awhile since I've removed it, but if memory serves, there is a nut that holds it on to one of the bolts for the drivers side swaybar bushing mount. Then I believe (and this is where I'm foggy) there are 2 screws somewhere behind the wheelwell holding the piece against part of the frame or sheetmetal. I remember one being a PITA to get at.

That extra metal shield is to protect the cruise control mechanism from rocks. There are 2 (10mm ?) screws on the side. It's a bit of a pain, but only adds 5 mins. or so of work. Here is a pic:

Yep, they are 10mm screws holding that thing in, but it is up where you can't see it. Just go to installuniversity.com and look at their write-up. Hell, just follow the plate up with your hand, and you'll feel the one 10mm bolt you can't see.
