Default tie rod ends

How do you get them off? I am stuck! I used a bench vice, liquid wrench and wd-40 with no results!
I am replacing my steering rack and the new one didnt come with any tie rod ends. Should I jsut go to the dealer and buy new ones?

well, i've never done it before either, but i think i saw Horse Power TV do a swap today on a 97 SS. they went from stock to Bear, and they had bump stops in them. i've seen them advertised in Year One, and will get these when my new k-member and stuff goes in. they just held a jam nut on the inside part of the rack, and turned the not on the outer side, then it just screwed off by hand once it was loosened. hope that helps.

Dave

i'm about to do a search on these, and if i can't find a thread on it, then i'll start a new post on them.

I am thinking about just going to the dealer and buying some new ends.
someone on the other site said I should use a pickle puller that you can rent at autozone.

The inner tie rod ends? or the outer ...

I am thinking you are trying to get the inner ends off ...

They are loctited in, as I recall. There is a flat spot on both sides of the inner tie rod. I put an adjustable wrench on it and got it loose. It was togh to get started, but came out easily once it was broken loose.

And looking at it, it unthreaded at a different place than where I thought ... seems like it was behind that large round collar

Here is the inner tie rod end removed from the steering rack.

That is what happens when a dumbass hits your car in the right front wheel, trying to get in a parking space at 30mph ...

Here is the end that screws into the rack ....
Notice the flats? Get a wrench in there and it should come right off ..
