Default Steering leak

Changing the oil today, I found a small leak on the driver's side of the steering rack. I've topped off the fluid, but I need to get this fixed. The accordian boot is pretty wet, so that side of the rack appear to be the culprit.

Is there a seal on that side that can be replaced?

Is this something I can/should attempt, or would I be better off paying someone to do it?

If it's not a simple seal, and I have to replace the entire rack, how much (approximately) am I looking at, with labor?

Thanks

-Mike

I had my rack replaced THREE times. I had the same problem as you as well. I had to get it replaced. The local chevy dealer wanted close to 600 for the labor so I brought it to the local goodyear to do it. They were retarded so I had to do some minor work after they left, but they charged me 250.

If you have more than jack stands you could probably do it, I couldn't because I couldn't get the car high enough to get a bolt that the tranny was blocking

Make sure you get the right rack though. That is why I had to get mine done three times; for the 98 there are two racks and they ordered the wrong rack two times in a row.
