Default Steering Issue

I've found something a bit strange recently. When my car is moving very slowly forward or not moving at all and I am turning the wheels either direction, I've noticed a weird vibration. The vibration feeds all the way to the steering wheel and provides a small increase in resistance to my turning of the steering wheel. It's like a sudden somewhat jarring vibration that happens unexpectedly.

This explanation isn't very good, but it's the best I can do. Does anyone have any ideas of what it might be and where I should begin looking? Any help at all would be great.

I had a similar issue on an old Jeep Wrangler of mine and was told by someone at the Chrysler Dealership that at low RPMs the engine doesnt create enough vacuum to move the car and power the power steering at the same time. I dont know if this is true but I did notice that when I would rev the engine the vibration would go away and it would be easier to turn the wheel. I hope that helps!

I've heard of that before as well, but I don't believe that's what it is. It has just started happening recently and I've never heard of that being an issue on any 4th gens, so that's why I ruled out that possibility.

That's because the power steering system is driven by the serpentine belt. It's not hooked into the vacuum system, but when you rev the engine, the rpm's rise... therefore the rpm's experienced by the pump increase as well, which in turn provides more boost.

I have the same exact problem. But I also have a leak in my power steering coming out from where the steering shaft goes into the power steering. I need to either replace seals or I am thinking of getting a newer used one off a car that is being parted out.

I'll have to take a look and see on that one, that's very possible. I'm going to be pissed if that's the problem since my car is pretty low on the mileage.

I just fixed a leak in my system and installed a steel braided line. If you're interested in knowing more, send me a PM.
