Default Changing front shocks.... Do i really have to pull the Upper A-Arm?

Just read a little write-up on how to change front shocks for our cars (bought me some Bilstein HD's) .... do i REALLY have to yank the upper a-arm to get the shock out? this is something i really do NOT want to do..... as this would most certainly require a re-alignment... wouldn't it?

i have a 1996 f-body z28.... any suggestions are welcome...

thanks!

I never pull them off of the spindle, if that's what you're asking. I just pull the shock out of the fender and lift the a arm off and rotate it out of the way. I don't have pics handy (but I have some) to show you what I mean, but I should in about a week.

Kevin ... he asked about the UPPER A-Arm ...

Yes, the upper shock perch and upper A-Arm are an integrated unit. It will be grossly obvious once you get the assembly off the car.

Being as the top mount is in a fixed position, a realignment typically isn't necessary.

Yup, you definately have to pull the Top A-Arm off. Get some WD-40 or liquid wrench ready for the passenger side bolt holding it to the shock, cause it has a tendency to be rusted to heck thanks to water pooling in there.

I'm confused. I thought he was trying to avoid pulling the upper balljoint. You don't need to pull the balljoint, just the 4 bolts in the top.
