Default Need help with C5 brake conv. brackets

Is there anyone who can tell me why I shouldn't use 304 SS to make these?
Keep in mine they are mounted behind the spindle and the two
ears bolt to the caliber. The engineers at Ambec told me the
304 SS was as strong or stronger as common steel plate. Here
is the link to my bracket thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/lsx-parts-sale/326239-c5-brake-brackets.html

Thanks for any help,
Dale

A few things. I'd be concerned that you are making anything that is going to stop my car and keep me safe when you call them "calibers". They are calipers. I'd like someone who knows at least the basics to be engineering parts to stop my car. I'll skip the use of "mine" for "mind" and assume it's a basic typo.

2nd. I'm guessing Ambec is a brake design company with a background (or even some idea) of the loading and cyclic stress that a bracket such as this will be exposed to? Ok, I'm not guessing that at all. I'm guessing they don't have a clue about this product and the two of you could be dangerous together.

3rd. 304 stainless is a great material.....for making headers. You said:

The engineers at AMBEC Inc. told me the half inch thick stainless steel would be as strong as half inch steel brackets. My brackets are made from 2 quarter inch plates sandwiched together. If there is anyone that knows a difference please let me know.
And, how did you arrive at the idea that 1/2" "steel" is strong enough and has the properties needed to handle the loads? If you are going to use it as a strength target, you need to know if it really offers enough strength. And what alloy of "1/2" steel" were you basing that off of?

It sounds like you are in way over your head in a business that you know and understand little about. When you were done at Summit Point, you're front brake pads had a nasty taper to them (unless you just didn't use the brakes to any real extent), did you ever figure out which part of your design caused that?

Again, I'm not trying to be mean, but you are asking for help from the very people you hope to sell this product to. I'd not expect to see Bridgestone in here asking people what steel to use in the belts on radial tires. If you are in the tire business you should know that information. If they were, would you buy tires from them? No, you'd go to a company that seems to have an engineering and testing staff. I'm not saying that you won't eventually wind up with a workable product, but if one fails and you wind up liable, is it worth it?

I had a set of Bobs steel brackets, they were 1/2 thick, so I made mind
1/2 thick. I dont think he used any sp. alloy sleel. If the 304 ss is not a
appropriate matl. I will not sell the last ones I have. Dale

Dale, I'd not sell them made out of 304, even worse, I'd not sell them out of t 1/4" sheets of 304. That removes most of the rigidity that they might have (other than the material being a bad choice).
