Default Rack and Pinion Question

Is it absolutely necessary to remove a steering rack if it is leaking from a certain area ? My rack is leaking where the steering shaft connects to the rack and pinion. Couldn't I just replace what seems like a bad gasket? I would hate to spend so much money on something like this when the money could be better spent on performance or style.

What say you F-Body brothers and sisters?

Sounds like a lip seal. I don't know what it takes to replace it, but you can try giving Turn One a call and see what they say. They rebuild racks if need be and they're great to work with.
