camaro vs. corvette I wanted to get some opinions on the matter. If you beef up the suspension on both vehicles how much better would the vette handle. My camaro only weighs 3320 pounds, could it handle as good?
Nope, the 'Vette is a better platform for handling, especially the C5 and C6 Z06. Now if you made the right suspension mods and did some weight reduction on an LS1 fbody, you could get it to handle as well or maybe better than a stock Z06. But if you do the same stuff to both cars, the Z06 will always be better. How much better is probably less important than how the two drivers compare, though.
I had a very good Z06 autoX driver take a run in my modified Camaro; he was about 1.5 seconds slower on a 60 second course than in his stock 2002 Z06. But that was his first run in my car; I'm sure he could have done better with practice.
At that time, I think my car may have weighed close to the same as yours.

BOSS APPROVED! Yeah, you say your car is only 3320 lbs; well a C5 Z06 is 3200 stock and can get down to 2500. You can make your car lighter than a stock C5, but not ligher than a LIGHTENED C5. You can lower your center of gravity by lowering the car, but the Vette can be lowered also. As Rodriguez says, that's what you get for forking out the big bucks for a Vette. You also get an IRS, which helps in handling by improving traction and allowing a performance rear wheel alighnment. But as I said, the difference between two drivers is usually far more than the difference between a Vette and a Fbody, so with a driving school for you and a set of Koni shocks along with some weight reduction for your car, you will be far ahead of most Vettes.

I would answer your question with a YES. A lot of factors are involved though.
If your camaro had some upgraded suspension parts and sticky tires like Nitto RII or something and the vette was stock with stock tires you could probably beat him on a race track. The vettes are quicker in theory, but tires and drivers can make up the difference. I wouldn't really worry myself about which is better, just build up your car to handle like you want. 315's all around help, too.
Cals' probably kicked some vette ***. Just remember, as fast as you are, there will always be someone faster. I've accepted that and am at peace with it. I still try and make my car faster because I get used to it and want more. I'm a poor fellow so I have to make small improvements here and there.
