squeeking shock?

squeeking shock? i just aquired an 88 GTA as a project car (not the 3rd gen in the sig), and it makes this perpetual squeeking sound when driving that is very loud... i believe its the rear shock because if the car is in park and i push on the body, it makes the same noise. its annoying as well as embarassing to drive around like that.
supposedly the shocks have been replaced in the recent years, and i dont notice any significant flaws in the ride quality, so i question if the shock is actually 'blown'. i'd like a cheap/free fix if one is available... is it possible to fix it just by putting a little grease on the shock piston? or would that cause more harm?

First thing to pops into my mind is the LCA. Just unbolt the shock on the bottom and let it hang and then bounce the car again. If the squeek is gone, it's the shock, if it's still there, it's something other than the shock.
Did the prevoius owner install poly bushings anywhere in the rear? Sway bar for example.
Also, sometimes the rear springs can fall over to the side and rub as the axle moves up and down. Make sure the spring is centered aroung the dimple up top.
