Default Lower control arms?

I am going to replace my stock lower control arms on my 1999 trans am. I have looked at many manufactuers and most of them look the same, but what is the difference between the tubular and the boxed ones? Which are better? Are there advantages or disadvantages with either one? If any of you have done this let me know what you think.
Thanks
