Default Simple question....shocks and springs...

With BMR lowering springs, will the Bilstein HDs be fine, or should I go with the Revalved ones from Strano Parts? There is a $185 difference, so if I can get away with just the HDs I'll do that.

Thanks

Been discussed roughly 10,000 time before. I'd suggest a seach with the word Revalve in it. Bottom line, HD's are not and never were meant to damp lowering springs. Bilstein comes out and says so in their catalog. What does that tell you? Tells me those that have done it and think it's fine just haven't found what the effect of proper spring damping (which shocks are) does for you.

Revalves are shocks to fill the damping and price gap between Bilstein's and Koni's. They are my way of giving folks the damping needed for a specific job, but not forcing them to spend money on a Koni they might not use.

If you just intend to use the stock springs, is there any reason to buy the revalves?

Simply a matter of taste. I find HD's to be a lot, LOT better than DeCarbon's. However, I still find them to be lacking a bit of rebound control. The car generates roll still a big too quickly, and while a good 90% of the floating is fixed there are occassions when the Bilstein's are a bit soft on the rebound as well and a little bobbing results.

Like any non-adjustable shock, be it HD's, my Revalves, etc. you get what you get. That's someone's interpretation of what's needed for a mass market. I tend to deal with more performance oriented folks, and as such many want a very well damped car (think BMW vs. an Impala).

The above reason is why I WANT to speak with my customers. I want to have a conversation about what you want vs. what you need vs. what might benefit you best. If it's HD's, then I'll happily sell you HD's. If it's something else, I'll tell you that as well. It's truly a shame that I seem to be one of a very, very few who are truly interested in what the customer needs and what will make them most happy. I can understand why, it takes time and I can't do the volume of work that a company employing a "wal-mart" mentality can (which means less sales). I'm willing to live with that. As long as make living and folks know they can come back to me for solid, useful information, I'll stay around.

Just yesterday I spoke with a man who bought shocks and springs from a HUGE supplier. He did this before finding me. The springs were wrong for his application. The shocks were wrong for his application, and the combination of the springs and shocks together was WAY off.
