what is the general purpose of a trailing arm????? how is it different then a control arm

If you are talking about the rear suspension of our (f bodies) cars, they are two ways of identifying the same part. Sort of like some people call a panhard bar/rod a "track Bar", even though a track bar on a Nextel Cup car is slightly different than on our rides.
