do i have to pull the motor to change the k-member?

Although I have never pulled an engine from a 4th Gen F-body, I'd imagine that the engine would have to come out with the K member since that's what it's mounted on.

people have changed them with the motor still intact

It was explained to me that the motor could be "hung" in place to change the k member. Pretty self explanitory.

No need to pull the motor. It' actually a pretty easy and straight forward swap.

Engine does not need to come out. You can support it with a hoist or a jack and 2x4 across the oil pan. I did it by myself in a day with new poly motor mounts using jack stands in the garage.

You could make a support like a STB to hang it from.
