Default Front shock question

It's been so long since I had the front shocks out of the car I can't remember: isn't the bottom spring plate pressed on to the strut, i.e. non-removable? I bought new ones today and the new ones don't have any bottom spring plates on them. They should, shouldn't they? Wrong part?

Your stock "spring plate" is removable. Just switch it over.

It's not pressed on. If you tap on it with a hammer, it will loosen up and slide down the shock body (away from the mounting tabs). When it gets to the disc at the end of the shock body, keep tapping and the disc will pop off.
