I mean the car itself. How will the car handle without one?

Thumbs down

I don't think that's a real good idea. Probably not safe. But I'll leave it to the suspension experts to explain why.

The torque arm prevents the rearend assembly from rotating itself to the destruction of driveshaft,u-joints,shocks,sway bar, brake lines, etc.

What FirstYrLS1Z is saying without saying, because the drive shaft connects the tranny to the rear end (differential) when you hit the gas even mildly, it turns and tries to either rotate the differential up or down (directional of course) and if that happened, it could pull the drive shaft out of the tranny. . .then you would go POGO w/the car. . .pogo is bad. . .pogo gets expensive and could hurt you. . .
