Default Which tires, i need help

I have a '98 formula, with stock wheels, 16" but i am not sure about width. I need new tires, thing is i don't know what model or brand.

I want to have tires that will grip, not something i spin too easily. BUT i can't afford new sticky tires all the time, being that sticky tires wear out quickly in comparison to more normal tires. What kind of tire should i go with that won't wear out very fast, but still grip a little?

Also, what widths can i put on the stock rim, and should i get the same width all around so i can rotate the tires?

The stock wheels are 16"x 8". Stick with 245/50-16's all four wheels so you can rotate.

A good, CHEAP tire is the Kumho 712. $85

Better grip in dry Dunlop sp8000 $116

Awesome grip in wet, decent in dry the Pirelli p7000 supersport $105

all these are at Tirerack.

I can go a little higher than those prices, maybe like $150 if i want. Is that amount more for the tires going to make a difference performance wise? I live in San Diego, so wet traction isn't much of a concern as it rains VERY rarely.

The next higher level will cost about $200 each but life will be shorter because they are soft tires. A couple other choices pop up if you would go to a 245/45-16 or a 255/50-16 but both of those will affect your gearing.

I would go with the Dunlops for the money. Do some research on Tirerack of the different choices available. They have surveys, comments and testing.

Thanks, i've been looking around a bit.

But on the numbers in 245/50-16 can't i change the 245 up a bit, b/c isn't that only width? How can the width of the tire change the gearing/speedometer reading? If i can, i'd rather go a bit wider, but if not...

you can go a bit wider on your tires, but not to much cause of the width of the wheel its not that wide. when i replace my tires im getting the dunlop sp 8000 255/50/16. i was gonna go with bfgoodrich but there pretty hard to get since their discontinuing some of their models and that their on backorder from what i know.

Ya, i was told i could go 255/50-16 without any issues of rubbing, and that the speedometer wouldn't be affected enough to be noticable or matter. If i go for that size depends on if the tire i want comes in that size.
