I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question or not. It might deal with both suspension and brakes.

I have a horribly annoying squeak coming from my right rear wheel well area. It sounds like a cricket. It happens only when I rev the engine or when I hit some bumps. Basically, it's triggered by vibration. It'll do it when I'm parked just revving. When I had it on jack stands and I rev'd it, it didn't make the sound. I believe because the springs were taken out of the equation. I think the problem is this:

The last time I replaced the rear brake pads the right rear rotor would not come off. So instead of using brain instead of brawn, I just ripped that bitch off...almost did a summersault!
Anyway, the e-brake broke loose in one place. I think that may be my culprit. I've put about 4 thousand miles on the car since that last brake job though and I never heard anything before a few days ago. I would've taken the rotor off tonight but I didn't want to completely screw up the e brake.

Sorry for this being a damned novel, but what do you think? Anyone ever run into this problem before?

Dan

The ebrake may be the problem.. only one way to find out, rip it off and fix anything thats broken. If thats not the problem, then i would put pcv tubing on the lower and upper coil of each spring, insulating it from the chassis. This is a factory fix for squeaky coils for lexus's at my dealership, works awesome.

Ya, I thought it might be the springs squeaking as well. I read a few posts about guys putting tubing over the coil ends to prevent it. I'm going to be painting my calipers and rotor hats this Saturday. That'll be a good time to check out the e brake. I'm concerned that the e brake will break completely when I remove the rotor again. I don't remember what the assembly looks like so I'm not sure how I could repair it. I supposed I could just replace the whole thing. There is no way in hell I'll be able to put up with this squeak.

Anyone else have any suggestions or has anyone ever replaced the ebrake? If so, what does it entail?

I guess I should add the fact that I recently had a hooker catback installed. It's much louder than the stock Z28 exhaust so the car vibrates a lot in the rear.

I'm hoping someone can help me here 'cuz I'm going crazy listening to this. I might have to upgrade stereo systems if I can't figure this out! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
