Seriously pissed......
Okay, I went and attempted to install my new SLP bolt on SFC's. Was very simple until I bolted on the passenger side SFC. I bolted on the rear SFC with the rear control arm just as the instructions said to. As I lifted it up to bolt on the flange on the SFC to the middle frame connector, it didn't reach the holes. I mean I had a good 1 1/2" to go. Where the SFC bolts on to the front end of the chassis reached the holes barely, but not as good as the drivers side, and it took a great deal of effort. I really pushed hard, too. The driver's side went on perfect after I trimmed the fuel heat shield, no problems whatsoever. Has anybody had these problems? I mean, if my chassis was bent that bad I would notice in the drivability, right? My guess is that the SFC wasn't welded correctly, or they gave me the wrong one. Any comments or suggestions? <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

I did, and for the most part they are. I'm no expert, but the design looks fine to me. I have no clue. Just trying to see if anybody else has had this problem.

It's slp what do you expect? Around here there have been a lot of problems with slp's fitting on a car with some miles. They usually fit new cars fine but after that it's a crap shoot. Look into Kenny Browns or even BMR.

Usally you'll have a hole off a little but an 1" 1/2 is a bit too much, I'm not sure how you installed the sfc but you should leave all the bolts loose untill you have all of the bolts in place.

My SLP bolt-ons went on just fine. The left & right ARE NOT mirror images.
If yours are mirror images , perhaps you got 2 of the same side????

Re: Seriously pissed......
I had the same problems with my passenger side on my '96 T/A. The center part that connected to the g-load brace brackets was 1 1/2" from the car. And no give. Also, the holes did not line up. I called SLP and complained. They commenced to telling me that my car had probably been wrecked. I told them that was B.S. My car had 4 tenths of a mile on it when I picked it up form the dealer and had NEVER been wrecked. I won't even take the car thru a dip or over a speed bump! Then they commenced to telling me that they had made thousands of these with no problems. They use this really expensive jig to build them in. I continued to argue and they agreed to send me a new set. They wanted their old ones back. No problem. I asked them to issue a call tag for them ($38.50 to ship them), and they said I would have to pay for them myself. They also told me since I painted my first set, if found that they were good, I would have to pay for the second set. I received my second set and had to clearance the holes again with a die grinder to get them to fit. Thirteen months later and they still haven't issued a call tag for the old ones. SLP employees were VERY arrogant. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> I will never spend another dime of my hard earned money on anything of theirs. End rant.

Re: Seriously pissed......
Thanks for the help guys. I figured it out. I think the explaination of my problem was a little vague.....the holes lined up, the SFC flange just wouldn't reach so I could bolt it into the cross-beam(or whatever it's called). I just have to grind down the hole near the RCA where the little SFC plate bolts in horizontally. The SFC's did not mirror each other. It was lifted on a platform lift, so I don't think bend would have a play in it. From what I'm hearing, this is a pretty common thing. Once again, thanks for the help. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
P.S. Hey, DriveAT/A, now that I think about it, do I want to load the suspension, or jack up the chassis?

SS U want to use a drive on type lift, like the kind used to do front end alignments ! This way the weight of the car is on all four tires and the chasis is loaded ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: Seriously pissed......
Just a note: SFC are supposed to be installed while the car is on a hoist. The body of the car will then be the same as on the ground.

Re: Seriously pissed......
I think the problem is with SLP. I've got them on my car with no problems but I helped Woos1 install his over my pit (obviously the suspension was loaded) The fitment on the first set was horrible and the second was not much better. Make SLP send you a new set.

Re: Seriously pissed......
I hear everyone saying how the body needs to be "loaded" before installing SFC's.
Has anyone thought about that or are they just repeating what they've heard?
If you're supporting the body on the jack points and it's level, then there should be no unusual flexing of the body, and installing SFC's is not a problem.
The only difference between the car resting on the wheels versus resting on the jack points is how far away from the center the loading is. In fact, the chassis probably flexes more (sags) when sitting on the wheels due to the increased distance from the center.
As long as the car is level, either on the wheels or jack points, the difference is probably negligible, IMO.

Re: Seriously pissed......
Dean, you're absolutely right. The car being level is the only concern. In fact, call up Kenny Brown, even though in their instructions they recommend having the car under load, they install SFCs in their shop on a lift.

Re: Seriously pissed......
I installed the Bolt-On SFC from SLP and there wasn't any problem with the installation. I did have to cut the fuel heat shield as specified for the SFC to clear on the driver side, but other than that mod everything was straight forward. Since I did this in my garage with standard jacks and lack of tools, it took me a while to get everything bolted on. I recommend at least 2 people installing it would greatly increase the time spend on installing this mod.
