trying to decide between buying front and rear at the same time and save a little money or buy just the front and hope it's good enough...

So PSJ basically unless your at the track all the time its really not worth getting hals in the back? and just get some bilsteins in the back and QA1s up front?

Do the front QA1's first.

The point of having the fronts is to have expanded weight transfer.

Stock rear shocks are 50/50 fwiw. If you go to the track alot then get the rears too but I tend to leave the rears at one setting since I go to the same tracks most of the time.
