Default Which spring compressor??

I"m trying to install a set of hal shocks and springs. I got the strut spring compressor from auto zone but it seems like it's made to go inside the spring itself. The guy didn't seem to know much at the store. Is there a differant compressor for coil overs?

Sears sells a set of Craftsman spring compressors that work on the outside of the spring (the same type I used) for about $39.99. They will do what you need.

Here they are....

Good luck.

Go back to the parts store and tell them you need a "McPherson" strut compressor.

If they don't have one, some other parts store will. Advance Auto, Pep Boys, or Autozone should have one. They look like the ones in trackbird's link.

The pair fits on either side of the spring assembly and you just try to work back and forth between the two to keep them even as they compress. Otherwise they'll want to wander around the spring.

As long as you've got the assembly out, might as well call a few shops just to see what they'd charge to disassemble and reassemble them for you. You can do a pair with a wall mounted compressor in about 15 minutes. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
