Default Shock guys in here

I purchased a set of revavled bilstiens from a member of this board last week. When I recieved them yesterday one of the brass pieces on the top of the front struts had come off. I took it to my friend who is a GM tech an he tried to press it back in but with no luck. Here are my questions what does this piece do an can we tack weld or JB Weld it back to the shock body? In case I haven't been clear it is the piece that the rod passes through on the top of the strut that the dust boot would cover up.
Thanks
Travis

Isn't that cap just a hard stop that is crimped in place? Is that what you are describing?

I definitely wouldn't weld it. The heat would kill the internal seals.

And they are SHOCKS ... not STRUTS.

I guess its may be crimped its right on top of the shock the rod passes through it at the very top. You think just a couple of small tack spots would hurt it? It would not get very hot.
