Default Will this work well together?

Hey guys,
I am looking to get new shocks soon and I plan on getting the Koni SA's for the front and put the stock spring on the lower perch. I have seen pictures of cars lowered this way and I like the way it looks and I am not looking forward to giving up the stock ride quality.

For the back, however, I will be removing the rear isolator, but my 12 bolt makes the back end a bit higher. If I cut the stock springs down .5" and remove the isolator and do the heater hose mod, would this be terribly bad for the stock spring? I plan on either getting the 3rd gen koni rears or putting my old set of bilstein hd's on it from the SS (~30k miles).

Is it alright if I cut the stock spring in the rear? Will the Bilstein HD's work fine in the back?

Thanks guys,
Alex

Any time you cut a spring, you make it stiffer. Also, you will be cutting off the portion that makes it sit pretty much flat on top. I've had no good luck with cutting springs, one of the reasons being you make the top of the spring crooked.

Koni SA front, Bilstein HD (4th gen) rears works ok. I think you'll find the rear shocks are not the equal of the fronts in a number of cases. You'll likely discover that when the front is damped well, the rear will feel a bit too soft. But you can certainly try it and upgrade the rear shocks to Koni's later if you feel you need to do so. I'd certainly recommend the 3rd gen Koni over a 4th gen HD simply because they are a better match to the fronts and give you some flexibility as well. Of course, you have the Bilstein's.

Car will ride best with the stock rear springs unmolested, but will sit higher because of your 12-bolt. I'd try the isolator mod alone first. If that doesn't work we'll have to look at options, but you have few because you can't use a weight jacker on a 12-bolt because of the "stack" the 12-bolts seem to all use inside of the springs.
