Default C5 calipers worth the $$

I am going to need new rotors, Again!,
I got some EBC rotors with the dimples, and the car shakes under braking like it did when the stock rotors went out.

So, I'm an ordering Brembo blank rotors, and I'm wondering if the C5 caliper is worth the trouble because it is a 2 piston caliper and it's not big money.

C5 calipers are the same thing as yours. The only difference is they are pressure cast and have smaller pistons in front. They will not help you in anyway. You would be best off getting some brembo blanks, good pads and cledding your brakes.

Did you check your sliders/pins? I had shaking from the front too. My front left pins were frozen in place, had to get a new caliper mounting bracket. Be sure to lube your sliders/pins with high temperature grease. I suggest replacing the seals on them too, cheap insurance.

The pins/sliders are the things that the 12mm caliper retaining bolts thread into. Since it is a 'floating' caliper it needs to be able to slide back and forth a bit on the pins for the inner and outer pad to seat properly on the rotor.

To check them:
Remove the 12mm caliper retainer bolts and support the caliper so it doesn't hang by the brake line. You should be able to pull the two pins out of the caliper bracket easily by hand. If they don't come out easy remove the two 18mm bolts that hold the caliper bracket in place so it's easier to work on (take your pads out first and set them aside). I was able to get one of my stuck pins out with some WD40. The other was really stuck. I tried using a small propane torch to heat it up. I eventually put an 18" pipe wrench on it and broke the top off the pin.

Once the pins are out take a look at the seals. Unless they are perfect I say replace them - I got a pack of 4 at Napa for about $10. And make sure you use high temperature grease for disc brakes. Clean any gunk off the pins and grease them up. Make sure the seals are tight on the top of the pin and seat OK on the caliper bracket side too.

When the pins are lubed well you really need the 16mm open end wrench to hold the pins in place while you tighten the 12mm caliper retainer bolts. If you didn't need the 16mm wrench to tighten or loosen the 12mm bolts that's a bad sign.

Good luck.
