Default Need help...steering is floaty/jerky

I'm having a problem with the steering in my car. When going down the road the steering seems like it's really floaty and then it will kinda be jerky at times. Almost like something in the steering is slipping and then catching. Any ideas? It's starting to scare me and I'd like to get it figured out.

1. check alignment (including the inspection of tie rods, tie rod ends, upper and lower ball joints, and upper and lower front control arm bushings)

2. check tyres (tread wear and pressure)

3. What kind of shocks and how many miles on them?

I think my issue is no.1 and no.3

I bought new Nitto 555s about 3500 miles ago for the front and have them set at 30psi at the moment. I replaced my DeCraps with some take offs about 40k ago. Now I'm getting blown off the road by every large truck I pass or that passes me. I've also had an accident.

How do I check the stuff in no.1? I'd really like to have a crack at it since I work a 9-5. It's very hard to take my car into a shop these days...

Sorry for ninjaing the thread

Would changing shocks do this possibly? I swapped my qa1's for a another set of qa1's and I may have changed the ride height a bit as well.

What was wrong with the old qa1's, and did you replace them with new or used qa1's?

I replaced the F series with the R series.....(I think) The R's aren't as bouncy on the street and save my headers.

Mine ended up being the outer tie rod ends. The shop said they were trashed. Everything else in my front end checked out ok, they'll have to re-align obvoiusly when they replace the tie rod end. They checked the shocks and said that they are still tight, but that my springs are weak all the way around. I'll find out how much it fixes before i sink a couple bucks into springs.

theblur98ss, did your symptoms sound similar to mine?
