To clarify, you can put an LS1 rack on an LT1 car, but you should not
go in reverse.
I put an LS1 rack on a V6 car, which uses an LT1 rag joint equiped rack.
The differences are the connection to the steering shaft and the ratio of the rack.
The LS1 rack is closer ratio, and uses a double ujoint style solid connector as opposed to a failure prone loosey goosey rag joint.
They are butter to swap out, and if you had not just laid out for a new one I would say you can get an LS1 rack from TA creations or any yard for that matter, just check the boots for leakage and the tie rods for trueness.
Don't forget to get an alignment.
