Default SFC welding

Ok, first off a couple questions. I am thinking of getting the boxed UMI SFC's. I see that they are steel, what material is the subframe, is it steel as well? I had a guy at a local Big Al's tell me that they MIG weld, but can't weld aluminum. Secondly, is MIG welding the way to go? And lastly, would you trust your car to that kind of shop? I'm not kidding, this guy had no idea what was involved. I asked for a price quote, and his response was, no ****, "I dunno, if it's just something kinda quick and not too difficult, you could prolly just tip the guy doing the work like $20, no shop fees." Apparently he does not know that these things are a 2 hour install. However, that doesn't speak to the quality of his welder, who might be an expert. If, after finding out how much labor it is, if he gives me a reasonable quote, should I trust them, or pay more and go to a custom/race oriented/LS1 experienced shop? Sorry for the lengthy post, but any help would be appreciated.

thats sorta a toss up, welding in sfc isnt exactly a tough job, im about to do mine whenever i get some spare time. You can always grind down all the welds and redo it, lol.
Just make sure they weld on the sfc with a normal load on the tires

**** that shop man, would you go to a dr. that didn't know what he was doing? Then try to find a better one, I took my WS6 to a mufflex shop to weld up my pipes. The guy could'nt drive a stick then put the car on the lift then dropped it a foot!!! almost hitting the floor. There are better shops out there just keep your ears open.

I didn't have any problems with mine, it took me a couple minutes to figure out how they went on but I didn't get any directions with mine. I just used a wire feed welder and it worked fine. took me about an hour to do after everything (grinding the paint off every place I had to weld, bolting it up then tach welding it, then I raised my car up and welded it all the way across then painted it again).
