Wobbly feel
It's also very rough with lots of elevation changes. Sorta like a micro-slice of Nürburgring. Well, the car felt good overall, lots of grip, and I knew I wasn't even straining the limits (too tight to push TOO hard, and it is a public road afterall).
But that brings me to the point of this post. At times it felt a little disconerting. There was a wobble, or jiggle in the tail end and a slight feeling of the car wanting to have a mind of it's own.
I know that 275s can induce trammelling, but this seemed different, and it's not really rutted, just bumpy and rough in places (but not everywhere). So I don't think it's trammeling.
I have 4/3 Koni's (lower perch in front, heater-hose mod in back, stock springs and sways all around) set to 4 sweeps from full stiff in front, and full soft in back. I also have SLP SFCs welded in, an SLP STB, and a UMI rod-ended PHB.
I got the SLP parts from SLP about 3 years ago, and the rest from Sam in August of 05. Around November I swapped out the stock tires for some BFG g-force Sports in the stock WS6 size.
I bought them because the ride, with the Koni's, got stiffer and harsher and started rattling things loose inside (which I hadn't had before), and according to TireRack.com those BFGs had more grip AND better ride than the stock GYs (pluse the stock tires were about 4 years old at that point too - non-garage kept, but only weekend/warm weather driven (no garage at the time)).
I installed the STB, dampers, and PHB myself. I've checked and re-checked the instal a dozen times trying to chase down a clunk over hard bumps in the rear. Everything is tightened to spec (everything that I had to remove to perform the installs at least). (and I followed the Install University guides and those found here as well)
My first thought was that it was the road surface. So when I got out to the highway, at about 80, I shook the wheel a little (to "rock the boat", as it were), and I felt it. So I got to thinking about my parts. As I've said, I'm certain they are tight, and I've felt this before too, it's just been awhile since I've driven it.
So then I thought maybe it was the tires.... A few days ago when it was about 50, I took it out to put some charge in the battery and aired up the tires to about 34f/30r, today it was warmer.
Still, I was hoping for the input from this forum. Any thoughts about what that feeling might be caused by? Or how to fix it? Anything I should look for? Any more detail needed? (and has anyone else noticed something like this?)
Sorry if it was long and rambling, but I was trying to put all the relevant info I could think of in.
