Default Plastic piece on bottom of spring?

So I was attempting to put my new shocks and springs on today when I encountered a problem. I can't get the nut off the top of the struts in the front because they are way too rusty and chewed up, so I have decided to just get new strut mounts.

My question is, do I need the plastic piece that's on the bottom of the factory springs? If so, what is it called?

I'm going with an KYB AGX and Strano Springs setup.

Yes, you need it. I think GM calls it an isolator, sorry don't have a part number.

You could compress the spring and cut the top part of the shock shaft

Tried that, but the nut has "become one" with the insulator and strut mount. lol It won't go down at all.

You don't often find parts on cars that serve no use.... this part is what makes the spring sit correctly on the perch of the shock. If you don't have it, the spring bows because of the pigtailed end and can sit slightly lower as well.
