Default Newb question about maint on breaks.

My rear breaks are just about brand new ( stock ) but the fronts are coming up on a service. I was thinking of a mild upgrade, brembo blanks and some hawk pads for the front, and just leaving the back stock. Is this retarded?

Also, should I have the fluid drained and replaced? Sorry if its a dumb question. If so, what fluid should I get? Also, are SS lines a waste if you don't auto cross race?

BTW, the car is an 02Z28 with 35K miles.

Good upgrade, and many leave the back stock so the bias is still good. Not retarded. With the fluid you're going to bleed the brakes anyway when swapping rotors and pads so you may as well go all the way and replace the fluid. I like ATE superblue and I don't feel SS lines are a waste. All my $.02 of course.

A full brake flush is GREAT for the following reasons:
1. Pedal feel
2. Consistent pedal
3. protecting your master cyl internally
4. Protecting your ABS unit
5. better resistance to fade when upgrading fluids

A simple complete brake flush and bleed makes all the difference, it accounts for most of the difference you feel when changing to SS lines. Makes the pedal feel like new, seen it literally hundreds of times on an otherwise stock brake job.

DO IT!
