Default lowering springs question

just got my 2000 ss and just noticed it has bilstein shocks but stock springs, is there anyway i can tell if the shocks are rated to be used with lowering springs or anything like that? thanks gang

Well, in short from your description, they're most likely the factory valving specs. With that stated, Bilstein's catalogue noted for several years that they're only to be designed for use with the OE springs and NOT "aftermarket lowering springs."

If you got and SS with the Bilstein option the shocks are valved to SLP's specs (which are a little better than the old stock HD) also the springs where SLP spec'd and they lowered the ride 1/2" from a standards Z28. But to answer your question no they are not designed for lowering springs beyond what they came with.
