Default E-Brake is REALLY loose

from the day I got my car (2 years ago), the E-brake cable has always seemed REALLY loose. I have to pull it WAY up before it engages

what can I do to tighten it up?

Take off the rear tires, calipers, and rotors to access the E-brake shoe. Once everything is off, put the e-brake on(it should go really high) and turn the adjustimg nut on the backing plate. It is black and is notched. Keep going until you get it where you like it, make sure it doens't rub the rotor though. To test it you need to have the rotors on.

Another possibility is that the wheel on the parking brake handle has rotated. (It is self adjusting) This happens frequently when the center console is removed etc. It creates a lot of slack and doesn't allow it to self adjust.

when you pull the console look at the handle and you'll see the silver disc I am talking about. Just rotate it and it will click back into place. I bet that is your problem.

Cheers,
Chris
