stupid question about headers
stupid question about headers I know this may sound dumb but I just ordered a set of Hooker longtube headers for my 2000 trans am 6 speed...do you have to have o2 extensions? some people are saying yes and others are saying no.....does it depend on the brand of headers wether or not you need the extensions?
You need extensions for the fronts, and have the rears tuned out. You can also buy a set of rear O2 simulators if you can find them.
2 24" extensions will work fine. If you're broke, you can cut/splice them longer, but that's not something I would suggest.
Another option is to buy two Bosch #BS13111 oxygen sensors. These have longer harnesses on them and work great. They have also been rumored to have stronger heaters and work well on cars with LT headers.

You will need the 02 extensions or you can buy the corvette's long rear 02 sensors and they will work very well. I would personally buy the corvette sensors and be done with it. I don't like to use the extensions.

The computer will go over its normal checks, but it will just ignore the fact that it's missing. The SES light will not come on. The setting says "No error reported". So it recognizes the problem, but doesn't do anything about it.
