I was in aerospace engineering for 3 years at texas a&m, I have done a few interns at boeing and at nasa. I have to say i wasnt to impressed with the facilities at nasa, but boeing was really nice. I switched majors this year and decided to be a pilot and possibly open my own company building small corporiate jets and flying them also. Just stick with it i loved the design part of it, just go sick of calculus after i was in my 5th semester of it physics calculus was what did me in and pushed me over the edge. Now im a business management major, GOOD LUCK im pretty sure you will love it and cu. I applied to cu boulder and the school of mines as well as poly tech and mit got accepted to all but mit it was just a little to expensive.

Decent engineering degree, but you will severely limit your job opportunities with aero. It is very specialized, and doesn't transfer into other industries like mechanical does. At least with a mechanical degree you can still work in the aero industry if you want. Something to consider.

Most of the time with an aerospace engineering degree you can get other minors.

I've been in aviation all of my life and I'd have to say that right now with the economy the way it is aviation is not the field to get into. I work for a subsidiary of Boeing and i've seen layoffs everywhere, Bell just laid off 550 here in Texas and Boeing is still under strike. I love aviation and always have but it's tuff right now.

Well an option you can do is aviation management, and mechanical engineering degree. I know right now they are looking for new people in the petroleum world and chemical with jobs starting at 80$ an hour... But i say you should just go for being a pilot, they are about to start picking up pilots really soon. Its going to run you about 60k to get into the industry but its well worth it, i mean the pay is alright but its not the best and you get to travel to some wonderful places and get paid to do it.

check out some of these sites to get some info, delta flight connection academy, OR atp flight school or google some in the dallas area.

Do you have a specific thing you want to do? I was interested in aero stuff a little bit but I am sticking with the ME route. We have to learn a fair amount of fluids stuff anyway.

My sister just graduated from U of M with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. She loved it, but currently she works at TACOM working in reliability, because they payed for her last two years of school. Some contract deal, but I really don't know much about it though. I envy her. Say what you want, working for the Government is a great thing to be involved in. Benefits like you would not believe.

A.E. grad from A&M. I've worked at Boeing, Seattle in the S&C dept, designing the dead sonic cruiser, 787, LCF, others i can't talk about.
Got married moved to Houston/NASA a few years ago, now i work on Shuttle, ISS and CEV design.

Aerospace industry is small but very close nit. True you have more options with M.E.

It all comes down to what YOU love and want to do. I've loved airplanes/rockets/space from day one. I chose this career and have no regrets.

PM if you want more info.

Will

btw: i can now make a wicked paper airplane.

Also if you move to Boulder you many never to come back to boring flat TX. I interned at Lockheed in Littleton (Denver) and lived in Colo Springs for a few yrs. I have all TX roots but damn Colo is beautiful.

Aerospace engineering = high specialized mechanical engineering

For instance, my first job out of school (ME) was aerospace. I did it for 2.5 years, and decided it wasn't for me...and I easily got another job in the oilfield. I won't say you can't change fields with an aerospace degree, but it will limit you much more.

Exactly why im an ME major. Im still not sure what i want to do for a career but i know i want to design, whether it be cars, planes, boats, i dont care. Engineering is something i want to do, and from everything i've heard being a ME is the best way to do anything you want.
