Starvation of oil in the rod bearings for whatever reason.

Could be many: 1) low on oil, 2) oil pump gave out/needs rebuilding, 3) improper bearing clearance 4) ?

well i will admit i was racing it when it happen i was in 2nd going from a 40roll and shifted into 3rd at 5500rpm like i always do, it seemed fine for about 20 minutes after the race then i heard a light knocking so pulled over and checked the oil, it was a quart low but i would'nt think only a quart low would cause the rod bearing to go out so idk. Im gonna pull out the motor tonight after work and see what all damage was done

Not sure if this is an option but there are quite a few good shops here that can help with the rebuild. If the block is still good then you'll save some money. good luck and hope it comes back better than before!!

how do you know its a bearing, could just be a valvespring. just because its knockin doesnt mean you spun a bearing. just take the valve covers off first before you pull the motor for no reason

when you say you threw a rod bearing do you mean you spun a bearing or threw a rod threw the side of the block?

Its real easy to determine of you have a spun bearing without lifting a finger. Just take a look at your oil pressure gauge. If its lower than usual, or jumping all over the place, you have a spun bearing.

i didnt have time to look at it today after work, all you guys are ******** anyway. no i dont know every little bitty thing about my car. thats why im learning. sorry i said threw instead of spun, honestly whop de doo, big deal. chrysler kid: im not gonna just pull the motor out for no reason. my dad is a mechanic and helping me with everything i do. He told me to drive it to the our shop (not even a mile away) and somethin dropped or snapped or whatever term yall would prefer and the car died. When it was knocking i asked my dad to listen to it and he agreed with me that it sounded like the piston was hitting the head. Then again my dad makes me learn things on my own right or wrong he lets me make my mistakes and learn from them.... jlrz28: i manually shift it cuz it takes off harder and runs faster that way. I dont care if you believe me or not thats just the way it is. jetlag: btw i do change the oil in my car.

im wanting to make it faster anyways so if i do "just pull the motor out for no reason" it being out of the car will give me a reason to upgrade

piston hitting the head? maybe you shouldnt have your dad look at the car then. might just want to take it to someone who knows what they are doing, or maybe hes just trying to make you learn from your mistakes lol. a piston could hit a valve if you busted a valve spring

i wasnt trying to be an ******* about it, just most people dont like to spend money if they dont need to, even if it does make the car faster.

when i tossed a valve spring the car knocked really hard, really sounded like a bent rod. it ran rough really rough for about 5-10 minutes before the spring just completely broke off and the valve just sat there adn the car wouldnt run

im just giving you grief, i dont think your car is hurt as badly as you think it is, but then again i have seen catastrophic damage from valvespring failure

A busted wrist pin will allow the piston to smack the head as the connecting rod comes up and hits it. And the combustion will shove it down. A spun bearing will chirp and knock. Anycase, its a damn good reason to build a stronger engine.

You my friend, are a dumbass.

If you spin a rod bearing, it starts to egg shape the rod journal hence the piston possibly hitting the head. Not often does this happen unless its real bad but it does happen. Please step away from the computer and pay people to work on your junk please. You're a god damn tool!

i guess you can keep feeding her bullshit about her car but im just trying to trouble shoot. she copped an attitude about me saying not to pull the motor so quick and called me an *******, then she says the sound is the piston hitting the head. its pretty obvious she need some help but i guess you would just rather post useless bickering bullshit instead

do you actually contribute anything to this website or do you just like being a random ******* that posts useless information ? what are you sixteen years old?
