I would dis connect the plug after the compressor and jump the two prongs to see if the compressor kicks on.
You could have a leak somewhere, I would get some die. First clean all your hoses and lines off really well so you can see the die. Then put the die in with some freon. This is only if your compressor is good. You'll need a UV light with some UV glasses which are yellow. I have this stuff if your local you can come over I will do it for you.
There's a chance that your compressor is bad and you have leaks, so you would change the compressor then check for leaks.
Usually you wont have compressor bad and leaks because once you get low on freon your compressor should stop kicking on due to low pressure. Although sometimes the clutch on the compressor locks up..
Others might have better methods but I've fixed several AC problems with this logic.
