thats what i thought! i've had this exhaust set up for 2 yrs and i've passed at this place before and now some punk kid is saying that my car is illegal? wtf? i'm pissed because i didn't like how he handled my car and then he was rude about the whole not passing thing. i thought nonemissions counties didn't require cats. i just want my facts straight and clear before i go talk to the manager and bitch out that guy..freaking wasting my time
The correct answer is yes, the law states that the car has to have all the emissions equipment that came on it from the manufacturer for the year model. The kid must have looked up under the car and seen that they were not there, alot of times the non emission counties wont go that far they will generally give you a quick safety inspection, try to hit you up for wipers or bulbs and send you out the door, but every now and then you get one that actually does a halfway proper inspection. Sounds like that happened to you.
Another stroke of bad luck for you is this, I was talking with my inspection guy and he told me when a car fails an inspection that they list the reason it failed on the computer, so when you go to another place to have it inspected if they pull it up on the computer is says that you failed at xxxxx insp. station and lists the reason why. Hope this info helps ya.
I know once I had an inspector tell me my windows were too dark and he showed me a little gauge that they use to put on the inside of the window, I told him to double check and see if he could see the 20$ bill thru the tint and it was fine
