I think you mean Bastrop.

Yeah, the Bastrop area is OK. I used to have to go out to Camp Swift, courtesy of the TXARNG.

There's a pretty decent family style restaurant at or near the corner of 95 and 71, and you can head North on 95 and hit the famous BBQ joints in Elgin.

It's pretty tame out there. Why don't you bring your car and come up a day early? You can attend our meet in Austin Saturday night and get some action.

If you are game, PM me for details.

Ah, Camp Gruber. Had a few buddies that went to Air Assault school there. They reported that it wasn't much fun.

Bastrop is actually Southeast of Austin. Takes me about an hour to get out there because I am on the North side of the city.

I have heard the same... I went through Air Assault School @ Ft. Campbell.. as a PFC... I am currently a 1SG and will be running the Zero/Qual ranges for these guy's deploying.. Also run the EST2000... Combat Simulator.. It's COOL high tech stuff... Crew served weapons, M4's,203,M2's,249's,Mark19, 12 Ga. shotgun, etc... Rollover class for the HUMV during an IED attack..

What DV are you in currently? We have a Bn. in Round Rock... (Drill SGT Bn.)

Thanks for the info... How far would you say it is from Dallas? 4 1/2 hrs?

Yeah, I heard the AA school at Campbell that was run by/for the 101st was more professional and less of a haze. I never did Air Assault myself. Went to Jump School at Benning instead. I was an "Alpha" so I got some extra attention from Sergeant Airborne, but it was all in good fun.

I'm not in any unit now. I'm a PFC these days ... Proud Fat Civilian

Not entirely sure how long it would take to get down there from Dallas, but 4.5 hours is in the ball park. Mapquest would give a good estimate.
