Default Is it possible to have a cam and have the same rpm's at idle?

I was talking to a guy at a recent meet, and he was saying how his car had a cam, but he had no idea what cam, since his car came like that. Well when he started it up, it sounded really good. Not a really choppy idle, but good. When I looked at his gauges, his car was idling at the normal rpm's. (just above 500)

Is it possible to have a cam, and yet still have the same RPM's at idle? Even with a baby cam?

Yes... you can set any cam to any RPM you want really but it probably wont run worth a **** if you go too low.

Well for instance, what size cam would he be able to set to stock idle rpm's and still run good? something like an LS2 cam?

I had a 236/240 idling in a LS2 at 700... I wouldn't recommend it but it can be done. You can pretty much run any size cam at anything above 500rpm if you know what you're doing tuning wise.

running a Leonoty (yes I know I can not spell) cam 231/237 295/298 112

my car starts cold/hot ac on/off from outside/inside with no problem
hunts for idle 500/800 for 5-8 seconds then idle great at 700/725 rpm in D/P
with a Good tune you can get low idle with a lot of chop ( lower the idle -more chop, I find if idle for a long time at low idle I smutt the plugs)
