Texas T/A natives in here, please...

Can somebody tell me what they do about there front license plate?
I'm talkin about the guys with 93-97 T/A's w/out a front plate...

I dont have a mount on my nose and I dont want to ugly up my new nose with a pos metal plate.

I've already been stopped over it being in my window instead of on the car... Had an asshole trooper get an attitude with me when I told'em my nose isnt equipped for a plate.

Thoughts?

knock on wood...troopers are the only one's I have ever had trouble with and that usually just results in a warning. I still cringe when I pass troopers, almost guaranteed to get static over the front tag with them. The city cops, sheriffs, and constables seem to care less. I display mine in the window as well. I have a friend that is RRPD and he states the window is enough for him to be considered front display.

I've seen a few t/a's in my town with no plates or in the window... It's mainly been troopers with me so far also.

There was a few times a cop in my town did it but not nearly as much as troopers.
Thought about putting mine on the air dam.

There are some mounts that mount UNDER the nose but it puts it up front. You could even do a custom bracket pretty easily if you think about it a little bit.

Yeah I have been pulled over a few times by troopers and one Constable, I just threw it up on the dash. I think worse case senario its a $10 dismissal fee b/c most courts will drop it if you show them a pic with it on the front of the car. I just dont worry about it.

i had my car for about 6 months before i decided to install the front plate. in fear of the 5-0 i put it on my dash on the windshield and i get pulled over within a week of having it there. i have since removed it and have yet to be pulled over. so im leaving mine off.

Got any pics of this? Sounds interesting.

I might just keep the plate with me and not worry about it... I've only gotten warnings anyway if I even get bothered.

Legally it just has to be displayed towards the front of the vehicle, the law does not state a specific place on the vehicle for it to be mounted, as long as it is visible from the front.

Tell him you're legally allowed to have it in the window and to have a nice day

The law says the front and rear of the vehicle. It does not say the most front part or forward facing. It is at the officers discretion.

§ 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR
REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the
person operates on a public highway during a registration period a
passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two
license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle,
So legally you are right AND wrong having it in the window.

At one time I had the law printed out and highlighted and when an officer pulled me over and asked me about it, I handed him the paper and told him to find me where in the law it states it needs to be affixed to the front of the vehicle. He handed the paper back, walked back to the squad car and started talking on the com. A few minutes later he walked back and told me to have a nice day. That was the only time I ever got pulled over in my 6 years of driving without a front plate affixed to the front (mine was in the windshield).

94fixerTA 09-26-2009 09:07 PM

I just through the plate in the windsheild with something to prop it up so it's good and visable. I'm looking for a white chicken to keep it up. Driving up an down 35 every day and have yet to get pulled over for it.

96V6Bird 09-26-2009 09:57 PM

Yeah.

I'll either leave it in the window or eventually put it on the air dam... My car needs springs and the front sits low so the plate wouldnt be as visible as some peoples cars with it on the air dam.

Thanks for the help, Fellas. :)

I don't have a front plate on my C4 vette, and took the front plate off of my 1989 formula. It caused the area around the bolts to rot out, and stained the paint with rust. Not trashing my car to add a plate to the front. I do still carry it with me just in case..

neutron82 09-27-2009 12:17 AM

i haven't had a front plate on my t/a for the year and a half i've owned it... but dallas cops don't give a shit about that, the city is far too big and there are much worse things going on that they have to worry about... the only ones i would watch out for is troopers or constables... so judging where you're at i would be careful lol... troopers are EVERYWHERE on 35 south of dallas

transam5.7lt1 09-27-2009 02:18 AM

Wasn't that supposed to go away this September? Where the front plate would not be required anymore? I read/heard it somewhere.....

neutron82 09-27-2009 02:30 AM

i think it was just a bs rumor
