No argument or debating from me on all these crazy things going on. The only thing that I am almost postive is that somewhere in America, some ignorant person turned in his paid off vehicle because the government told them that it was a good idea. Who knows how this person got a hold of this vehicle, it could have been grandpas perfectly good ride before he passed away. Anyways, this one ignorant person probably ended up getting their new vehicle repoed later. One ignoant person getting taken by the governments pleas and ideas is one too many. I always hope that the one main job of the government is to think for those who cannot.

My favorite are the people who traded in cars worth more than $4500. I would have traded in my Nissan DD, but it gets 20mpg

There is no ill effect from the damn co2. Did the co2 cause the earth quake that killed 500+ people? If you ask algore I am sure he will say ya...

If they want clean build more nuke plants.
the habitation of our planet does need co2 no doubt about that. However too much of it is far more dangerous than not enough co2. To say that there is NO ill effect is a bit of an ignorant statment.

Also the green movement is not liberal, left wing, or even democratic. It is much larger than that. lol. It isnt even American!! In fact America is one of the last countries (that isnt 3rd world of course) to jump on the green movemet. Social status and political status has nothing to do with the people working so hard to save the planet.

Some more clunker math ...

A lot of used cars will never see used car lots. It makes the value of my 3 year old truck go up.

If they really want to save the planet by taking cars off the road, why not spend it on making public transportation better and setting up real incentive programs for big companies to set up things like van pooling. You get cars off the road during peak hours which reduces traffic and less cars on the road mean less fuel consumed. Doesn't really seem to adress the issue by replacing cars with more cars.

Look for health care reform to really help the economy though...yeah O.K

You do know they recycle fluids right? Those fluids would have to be dealt with regardless of the clunker program. Crushing cars for emissions is not a new concept. They had a crusher program in Cali. The catch was that industry could get old cars and crush them for emissions credits. So they started buying old cars that weren't on the road cheap and crushing them and were allowed to pollute more w/out penalties. The environmentalists have always targeted our hobby.

If this would have really been a US economic stimulus plan the they would have tacked on a clause where you had to buy from the big 3, but they didn't. That would have made too much sense.

I agree 100%. Our public trans is horrible compared to other countries of similar development.

Removing higher emissions cars for somewhat lower is a bandaid at best. Give me a train to ride to work and a bus to take for lunch and I'll happily turn my car into a weekend warrior.
