What alternator to buy?

What alternator to buy? Just like the title says I need a new alternator for my 2000 LS1 WS6. I was wondering what brand and where to get one from. My first choice is going to local auto zone or oriley and get one from there just for the warranty(auto zone) but I have never bought anything like that from them. Any input is helpful. Thanks.

Hmm! So where did you end up getting it from? Is the one from oriley the one you got now? I don't want to go to a stealership because those guys are ridiculous on their price, I spent 200 bucks on a damn power steering pulley and reservoir.

Me and a several others have had countless repeat failures with the aftermarket alternators, my NAPA one is doing pretty good, im going to send you a PM with a link to where you should get your alternator, its a GM alternator and not much more expensive than autocrap.

x2 I have bought several Autozone and Oreilly alternators and starters and never had a return. I bought an Ac Delco reman Alternator for my 03 Gmc and it kept turning the battery light on and off and a check control message that said low charging voltage. I took it back and got another one and it was fine, but point of the story is that you can get a bad part from anywhere. My pick is for the lifetime duralast stuff, built to last, duralast!!!!!

I would only buy the duralast gold from autozone. I bought an alternator from a 2k s-10 v6 pickup. Its the same except for a little higher output and the plastic cover on the back will need to be snapped off the old and on to the new. Not to mention they stock them and are 30-40 bucks cheaper. I've had mine on the car for 40K + miles and had no issues.
