what to do in austin
try out pure. they may hassle u if you are not guido'd or jersey shore'd out, but the doormen usually aren't too bad and i'm usually in jeans and a polo.
to me, the blind pig pub overcharges on their drinks.
peckerheads gets a little crowded for my taste too.
the portion of sixth street that is closest to Interstate 35 is referred to as 'dirty 6th.' as a general rule of thumb, the further away you get from dirty 6th, the less 'gangstaz' you run into. there are nice places on 4th and 5th streets too, just to let you know.
if you go to pure, check out the different levels.
Chill places with live music: Maggie Maes, Pig, Friends, Uncle Flirty's, B.D. Riley's, Pete's and most the bars on Red River (Red 7, headhunters, Club Deville, Mohawks, Encore "old Spiros").
Night clubs: Pure, Spill, Soho, Aquarium, Barcelona with a few others.
Hangouts: Cheers shot bar, Dizzy, Chuggin, Dirty Dog, Touche, Library, Jackalope, Peckerheads, logan's, Lodge, Talouse, Darwins, and Shakespears.
Places I don't like: Although they have good staff, just hate the customer base, Pure, Malia, Treasure Island, Ace's, Wave, Vice, Coyote and a few others.
Buffalo Billiards is basically the only poolhall.
I know that street to damn well: Have bartended at Maggie's, Friends, Agave, and currently bartend at Cheers on certain days(kind of a Frat hangout). Worked on 6th for the past 5 years. Great part time gig.
My favorites are Cheers, Maggies, Shakespears, Dirty Dog, Aqaurium, Darwins, and Friends. I also go to West 6th (Union Park, Malotov, and Annie's West) alot along with Doc's on Congress (great little patio bar). My problem is, I pretty much always go where I know someone so my pov could be different.
Also, if you want one of the best burgers in Austin, check out Casino El Comino on 6th. Might have to wait a little while, but they are all hand made, and it is well worth it.
There are also some good spots on 4th, 5th, 7th, and Congress. Just remember Austin has the most bars per capita in the nation.
My brother said the normal Saturday band looks like an 80's hair band that stepped out of an time machine. Said it's an awesome show to watch and and their damn good. of course the week we went up there they weren't there.
Go to Salt Lick in Driftwood for BBQ early on Saturday!
