Default Homemade LS1 engine test stand

i made a homemade test stand from a $40 SDPC engine cradle and a wooden wine box. works pretty good. this video of it is pretty funny, so i thought i'd share: https://sites.google.com/site/zigzau...ine_test_stand

getting white smoke from the Metco breather and there's fluid seeping out at the head gaskets. Like a watery light tan colored fluid (water mixing with oil?). I'm hoping all it is is blown head gaskets. ARP head studs and new head gaskets are on their way from Summit...

I haven't pulled the heads yet.

And yes, that's a throttle body fuel injection system on top of a carbed intake.

Not familiar with Pontiac motors. They're more expensive to build also, unless you know how to find decent deals on them. I'm more familiar with LS1s. It was more cost effective to do it this way. I can always put in a 455 later, but right now I just want to drive the car.

The click clacking noise is actually the 78 lb injectors opening and closing. It made the same exact noise when I installed it on the Pontiac 400 motor. When you put an air cleaner on it you can barely hear it.

It sounds like the exhaust flanges rattling on the headers.

Not it is time to get it in the car...

They cost a little more than a small block Chevy and a little less than a big block Chevy.

Good luck on the project. I was just razzing you a little. I am old school and messing with Pontiacs since 1982.

I know! Trust me it totally freaked me out when I first heard it too. I tried to figure it out and ended up calling the manufacturer. They said EVERYONE who first installs the system calls them and asks them what that noise is.

Ha it's all good man. I hang out with die hard Pontiac fans in my Firebird group. A few of them though have said "well if you're going to put a different engine in it, LSx's are ok..." lol

My 400 was consuming about 5 quarts of oil every 50 miles. That is totally insane. There were no leaks, so the engine was eating it. I thought well, if it's the valve guides, or the piston rings, or both, i'd probably be spending a few hundred bucks at the machine shop. If the cylinders are out of round, that's even more money. And on and on.

I also don't know the specs of the cam that's in there. I saw how much aftermarket Pontiac heads are; imo it's a little ridiculous. This way I'm starting out knowing exactly what's inside the engine.
