Besides a chip missing out of the prop, it did great, Chad reccomended i remove the T stat while i was replacing the impeller, beotch did not get above 170*, did really well and i just need to get a stainless prop but i will probably rock another junk aluminum one till i get the cash for the SS piece i want.

Any recommendations for pitch? I think the current is a 21 and i am pretty satisfied with it, does 40 with 2 passengers and me, 35 with 3 plus me and the 2 YO, and when i brought the prop up a touch it went back to about 40.

I like a 19, at most a 20. Good all around pitch. I have a 4 blade stainless Stiletto on mine, but that is a touch over kill until you get a 5.3 in there. As far as the 5.3 goes, it would probably be easier to just find a 5.7 mercruiser and drop in there. You can get them to sound pretty healthy

It's actually louder on the water believe it or not

the riser manifolds will rust (water jackets) out eventually. They'll clog up at first, and it'll run a little hot. Then one day the cooling water will seep back in to the exhaust and hydro lock the motor . . . I'd check the elbows.

Sounds good, but a 5.3 or 4.8 is the goal, but i dont know where i can get manifolds for it, those things are weird as hell on the I6 so i am sure the V8 is just as bad.

Well, if it happens then it is time for the V8 right?

I've read up on a few boat LS motor swaps when it comes to manifolds . . . the Ford 351 manifolds will fit right up to the exhaust ports perfectly . . . but you will have to drill and tap for new bolt holes on the heads

I have a 99 Larson with a 350 TBI . . . I've been looking at LS swaps for it. It's very easy, but the hardest part is deciding on a exhaust manifold

So, it would seem there is enough metal on the LS head to be able to do then right? But what about making it plumb into the mercruiser out drive?

Well, i think i like that idea if i can get away with not having to run the exhaust out the engine, i think it can be done easily, i will have to look and see if i can just run it out the back of the boat with a couple of exit ports cut out. A 5.3 with a hot cam would be bad ***.

Congrats on the boat!!! Nothing better than being on the water IMHO!!

On the exhaust, you can plumb it out the back instead of through the outdrive BUT you need to obviously block the outlets that go through the outdrive. Mine has the Captains Call exhaust and you can switch it from through hull (Loud) to through prop (quiet). I wouldn't run a full hot exhaust, you still want the water jacketed exhaust to keep the temps down in the enclosed engine bay.

Forget the 5.3 or the 5.7 just drop a 6.2 liter in there!! Mine has the 320 HP 6.2 liter and good for about 65 mph in a 232 Baja Islander ....

In fact, we are heading out this afternoon for a little time out on the water!!

LOL, well, i dont know if the out drive could support so much exhaust or not, i might be better off finding one with a V8 that is blown but still has a good out drive on it. A 5.3 is just so cheap, they are over 300 Hp and that is twice what this I6 has, so i would be happy with it.

Yea a 5.3 would be a good plan. If you can find a hookup at a GM dealership you can get a pull out motor for free or next to nothing. My budy is a GM tech and got his 5.3 for free. His is gonna be pretty nasty though:

Boats are great as long as you have true friends!!! Take care of the main things, motor, electrical stuff and enjoy the s&%t out of it and if you do enjoy it work on the "pretty" factor after you know you can dog the sh*t out of it and still drive it up on the trailer.
Good luck and congrats on your new found fun!!!

Well, right now i am finding that every time i take it out, after 30 minutes, it starts cutting out at WOT and i have to back down, so i need to see if it is fuel or the carb that is acting up.

that's either the jets or the floats in the carb . . . or a mud doobber got into your vent for the gas tank, and it's not allowing it to suck in any air.

Change the fuel filter while you're at it

I think that the jets or floats would be an immediate problem, not something that would develop after driving it for a bit, but i could be wrong.

It has a clear fuel filter, i am going to change it even though it looks like there is not much it it.

I don't think that you can run around for 30min at WOT if it was a carb issue . . .

try cracking the gas cap to vent some air in

That is what i was thinking, i did crack the cap the last time it did it and it was a no go, did nothing at all. It was the first thing i thought of.

Just nose dives till i throttle it down or it will come back and nose dive again. You mean back fire out the carb or the exhaust?
