Anybody a Mac Whiz?
Anybody a Mac Whiz? So my mac book pro used to be super fast, but now it's slower then dirt.
I have tried clearing the cache, internet cookies, and files.
still slow, it has 4 gig of ram and the 2.3 processor. Anyone have any ideas or things to try to make it faster? Or does anyone work on them on the side... Pay you cash or beer... more if you actually fix it lol

The "slowness" that occurs, is this just sometimes, or all the time? Is it "slow" to browse the web, or "slow" to open up a program...? If it's slow to browse the web, then it might be your internet connection. If it's slow to open up programs and such, I'd look into just building yourself a custom pc. There's do it yourself kits on newegg for cheap.
If this were a Windows machine you were speaking about then I would first look into things that start up automatically with the PC. Then check the services that are running or run at start up. Disable things that don't need to start every time you reboot. The clean up the PC of unused applications/addons/files/etc.
Some of this may still apply to Macs, I don't know, never use them.

There are a lot of reasons a mac can run slow. What OS are you running? You might need to reload your OS. You could also can go online and find free software to clean up ALL cache (not just the cache from the internet). Could be a corrupt program. Have you run your disc utility yet (thats the first thing I would do).

Try this...it will repair system errors. You can do this every 3-4 months just as a precaution or as needed...
Restart your computer. As soon as the apple screen appears, hold down the apple key and 'S' to go into single user mode. It will take you to a black screen with a bunch of writing on it and your cursor will be at the bottom.
Enter: /sbin/fsck (space) -fy and hit enter. It will run system checks for a few minutes. When completed, it will either say 'file system was modified' if an error was found and corrected or file system ok. Then just reboot as normal.
