I have an 03 Trail Blazer LS.
I had the trans rebuilt about 60,000 miles ago 2.5 years ago. it worked pretty good till recently, now reverse doesnt always work. if the trans is nice and hot it will go in reverse and work perfectly. but other than that it either doesnt go into reverse or it will go in reverse but will have a bad shutter like it's trying to go from neutral to reverse back and forth.
Does anyone know what can be causing this. forward works perfectly every time. it's just reverse.

If the sunshell was stripped you wouldnt have reverse at all and only 1st and 3rd gear. sounds like a hard seal inside which cross leaks but when warm or hot gets soft but doesnt seal 100%. Pretty much any reverse problem with a transmission will have to come out.

I know the trans is gonna have to come out. Just seeing if anyone knew what may be causing it.
It sounds like it can a seal problem from what you described. i'm just on a huge budget and only have about 500 to get it fixed.
When it first started. it would shutter real bad in reverse and once warmed up it worked perfectly. over time it has got worse. now it will not go in reverse when cold and only if your lucky when it's hot.
i plan on doing it next week. i know its not good to drive it but i dont have a choice. i just dont use reverse and park where ever i can that i can pull straight through.

If I had to take a guess, I would say either a cut/damaged seal on the reverse input apply piston, or the snap ring for the reverse input return spring has came out of its groove. Causing the piston to bind in it's bore. Either way it's just a guess, it needs to come out.
