You may not need a wider lens. How long is the pole in your rig? You need at least a 10 to 14 foot pole. Going with a super wide lens will get distorted pic and a rolling shot usually goes for a mostly undistorted image with dramatic motion blurring effect at road, background and wheels.

i dont like zooms honestly, my widest glass is a zeiss 21mm distagon on a 5dII.
but i guess you dont have much of a choice if you want to stay in a budget. next thing you could do would be a 14mm L glass if you didnt go with the 10-22.
are you shooting on the kit 18-55 lens?
guess what chaman said would be the easiest thing to implement, a longer boom arm.
