Bolton's for bimmers are very expensive and add up much quicker then our fbodies. I have an 04 330i and I'm leaving it stock for this sole reason, plus you get nowhere near the gains on the E46 (99-06 3 series) as we do on our cars since they pretty much strech everything out of them from the factory. If he is hell bent on doing exhaust and intake Dinan is the best quality products out there and they are also offered by the dealer also tell him to check out the following for other good quality products:

oembimmerparts dot com
bavauto dot com

Good luck!!!

sell it and get the 335i, lol.

but yeah, bimmer mods are expensive and not really worth it HP wise (on non-turbo cars). If he wants just the sound that's one thing, but don't expect a lot of power.

Dinan is stupidly priced. It's not worth the price. Just to be able to buy the Dinan badge to put on the back of your car, you have to spend like $5k. No joke...

bavauto dot com is the best place to go. You really can't get much HP out of bimmers. They really are just about completely efficient.

If he wants a faster E46, tell him to ditch the 2.8L. The 2.8 is basically the 2.3 with a different head and those motors have no *****. Trust me, I drive them everyday at work. He should get either the 2.5 or the 3.0. The 2.5 has more ***** than the 2.8. Best bang for the buck in my opinion is a ZHP package 330i. They have suede steering wheels, black plastic trim (instead of wood), different bumper & side skirts and usually have factory navigation. It's pretty much an M3, but in a 4 door. A few minor differences from the M3 and they still scoot pretty damn good for a straight 6.

The best mods for bimmers tho, are full suspension, a cat back, short throw shifter and a good set of tires. Don't touch the intake on an E46. It will actually decrease the power. Don't buy upgraded coils, they just break and constantly cause mixture deviation faults. A DME re-map helps a lot, but it's pretty expensive.

Oh, and go to an independent BMW shop and have them reset adaptations and then tell your buddy to drive the **** out of it for ~100 miles. That helps a lot.
