I need a key cut for my 2000 Eclipse. The dealership wants to charge me $167 for the key, plus $$ to program it. Does this sound right?
167 + the program? Is that for one key? Newer cars have the keys made so dealers have a monopoly on them needed to be cut by special machines and then needing to be programmed by their scanners. Then you have to find a way to get it there. Its usually about 150-200 for one key for most vehicles.
Talk to a tech there, he might be able to give you a deal...
Edit:
I know when I worked for honda/acura they brake codes which allowed you to drive the vehilce with a cut key that wasn't programmed so it wouldn't have to be towed. Like I said talk to a tech there.
that sounds about right for the key. i worked at mitsu for a couple years they arent cheap. on some mitsubishis there is a way to program the key yourself, i cant remember exactly how and for which models will accept it. it has to do with cycling the key and pressing the hazard switch of all things a certain number of times. might be able to find that info on the web somewhere. ive never come across a way to get the car started without a coded key.
